Cord Of Three Strands

The Cord Of Three Strands Ceremony

“Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:12 (NIV)

The Cord Of Three Strands Ceremony, represents the beautiful symbolism showing everyone that Jesus Christ is the center of your marriage.  It tells the world that there are three people in your union–the bride, the groom, and Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord.  What a perfect way to start your marriage.

What a beautiful illustration of a Christian marriage!  First, you are all alone.  Then God brings that wonderful partner into your life.  You meet, become friends, have fun, discover that you have so much in common…When you are apart, you count down the minutes until you see that special someone again.  You realize you are in love and you want to spend the rest of your lives together.

But life happens and once you are married, if it is just the two of you in your marriage, things will begin to be rocky. Problems and trials take their toll. Your jobs, family members, and friends will all pull you in different directions.

You need the strength of three strands in your marriage.  The third strand is Jesus Christ.  He will be the center of your relationship if you will invite him in.  He will be the head of your home and provide the agape love from God that you need in order to stay together in love and unity when you face life’s troubles.

Jesus, as the third in your cord of three strands will stabilize and strengthen your relationship.  If you have not done so already, ask him to be your Savior and Lord by confessing your sins to him.  By faith, accept him into your life.  Then invite him to be the head of your home at your wedding ceremony.

Spend time together each day as a couple reading the Bible and praying.  Faithfully attend worship services in a Bible-believing church.  Make Christian friends and fellowship with them.  Do not spend much time with non-Christian friends, engaging in the activities you used to do.  They will drag you down and can eventually ruin your marriage. Find new things to do together as a couple that Jesus would approve of.

  • Gold Strand – Represents God at the center of the Marriage, The Lord Jesus has been invited to the position of authority in this marriage relationship.
  • Purple Strand – Represents the Groom, The majesty of God is head over the husband. As a husband submits himself to the Lord, the Lord in turn will hold the marriage together through the husband.
  • White Strand – Represents the Bride, This strand represents the purity of the bride of Christ. As each has received Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord, they are cleansed through Christ.
